FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. Can fatty liver be reversed with Ayurveda?

Fatty liver, especially in its early stages, can often improve significantly with weight management, regular physical activity, a healthy diet, and control of conditions such as diabetes and high cholesterol. Ayurvedic treatment may be used as supportive care, but it should not replace medical evaluation or evidence-based treatment. Regular liver-function tests and appropriate imaging may be recommended by your doctor.

The treatment period varies depending on the severity and cause of the liver problem. Lifestyle improvements may begin showing benefits over several weeks to months, while more advanced liver conditions require longer-term management and monitoring. Your doctor can determine the appropriate follow-up schedule based on your liver tests and overall health.

Not every Ayurvedic or herbal product is automatically safe for the liver. Some herbal preparations can interact with medicines or, in some cases, cause liver injury. Use Ayurvedic medicines only under the supervision of a qualified practitioner and inform your doctor about everything you are taking. Avoid self-prescribing herbal remedies for liver disease.

A liver-friendly diet generally emphasizes vegetables, fruits in appropriate portions, whole grains, legumes, adequate protein, and healthy fats while limiting added sugar, sugary drinks, refined carbohydrates, highly processed foods, and excessive saturated fat. For fatty liver, gradual weight loss when appropriate can be particularly helpful. Individual dietary needs may differ depending on the type and severity of liver disease.

If you have fatty liver or another liver condition, avoiding alcohol is the safest approach, particularly if there is significant liver inflammation, fibrosis, or cirrhosis. Alcohol can worsen liver injury. Discuss your alcohol intake honestly with your healthcare professional so they can give advice appropriate to your condition.

A special detox or cleansing program is not routinely necessary for liver health. Your liver and kidneys naturally process and eliminate waste from the body. Instead of extreme fasting, detox drinks, or unproven herbal cleanses, focus on a balanced diet, regular exercise, healthy weight management, adequate sleep, and avoiding alcohol and unnecessary medicines or supplements. For established liver disease, any cleansing or Panchakarma therapy should only be considered after medical assessment and with appropriate professional supervision.
